switchplus offers active SPAM protection on every e-mail account. This means:
- Independent handling of SPAM, including white, grey and blacklisting
- Use of our virus scanner
- Blocking of dangerous attachments
- Activation of SPF checks
- Activation of header checks
Your e-mails are first redirected to our antispam gateway and tested on the above listed points before they are sent to your inbox. You can define the filter strength of the yourself on our web interface.
You can either use our standard settings or activate your own settings – you can personalize the settings on the level of the DOMAIN or every single mail box. (Details can be found in the box in the footer).
Please consider also the information and help texts on antispam.switchplus-mail.ch.
Spam e-mails are unwanted e-mails that are sent to you unasked. The sender either wants you to buy something or wants you to open an e-mail attachment. There are often hidden viruses in the mentioned attachments.
Based on the Telecommunications act and the national law against the unfair competition Spam has been prohibited in Switzerland on April 1, 2007.
Our spam protection analyses every incoming e-mail based on different rules. The e-mail gets scanned on different characteristics which indicate SPAM. According to the characteristics there are spam points allocated. The more spam points (called SCORE) are allocated to an e-mail the bigger is the possibility that it is a spam e-mail. Please note, that in the points-based system, there can points be added or subtracted.
If the value which is set on antispam.switchplus-mail.ch (max. 5 spam points) is exceeded, the mail gets marked with ***SPAM***. If the e-mail has more than 10 SCORES, it will automatically be deleted.
You can increase or decrease the strength of the filter (the less spam points you set up, the stronger is the filter). If you receive an e-mail which has been marked with ***SPAM***, we recommend you to check the header data as there can be found many helpful information like:
- The total amount of the allocated spam points (X-Spam-Score)
- An overview of the single criteria which have caused the amount of the spam points (look at X-Spam-Report)
This information gives you an indication on how you can proceed.
If you’d like to do a modification like:
- You receive too much SPAM
- You miss e-mails (because they have been marked as SPAM and were moved in another folder or deleted)
- The ***SPAM*** in the header bothers you
- You don’t care about the whole SPAM history and you don’t want to use these functions
- The e-mails of a specific sender bother you and you’d like to block this e-mail address
- The e-mails of a specific sender should be transmitted to you even if they are marked as SPAM
- and so on…
Then you can change these and much more settings in our spam protection tool on antispam.switchplus-mail.ch.
In order to use your own settings, you first need to activate them. You can proof that if you see the following message on the top of the page:
“Your personal anti spam settings are activated”
If you don’t see this message, you have to click on the lower part of the link on ‘activate personal anti spam settings‘ [‘Eigene Antispam-Einstellungen aktivieren‘] (check out the point “activate personal anti spam settings”).
The procedure is the same, even if you only modify your black or whitelist.
Please consider the hint on the upper part of the page.
- You don’t have activated the personal anti spam settings.
The following standard settings are active::
= Standard settings, if you didn’t change anything
- You’ve created personal anti spam settings but they aren’t activated.
= You have set up personal settings but the standard settings are activated (Example: If you did a change but you didn’t activate the personal settings)
Now you are able to configure the anti spam settings concerning virus scanner, the blocking of dangerous attachments, activation of the SPF check and the handling of SPAM on your own.
If this function is active the subject of the e-mail will be marked with a corresponding adding (look at ‘Subject marked by’)
Here you define which adding will be used in the subject of the spam e-mail. The adding will be set at the beginning of the subject. Our standard adding is ***SPAM***. If you’d like to use another text, you can change it on your own.
In order to see the spam points in the subject you can use the following text: ***SPAM(_SCORE_)***
Here you specify to which folder the spam e-mails have to be redirected.
That means that the e-mails which exceed the maximum amount of spam point are not going to be deleted, because they will be redirected to the chosen folder. Please note, that the chosen folder needs to exist in your webmail (the standard folder for spam e-mails is “Junk-E-Mail”).
With this value, you configure the strength of the filter. The lower you set the value, the more e-mails will be marked as SPAM. If you receive too many marked e-mails, you can increase the chosen value.
With this value, you decide how many spam points are necessary to delete an e-mail. The e-mails which exceed this value will be deleted automatically.
With this function you are able to block a single e-mail address or all e-mail addresses of a DOMAIN (Blacklist) or you can deactivate the spam filter.
In order to insert all e-mail addresses of a DOMAIN, you need to add @ in front of the DOMAIN. (Example: @example.com)
If you use the option “soft”, the senders of the list are not completely blocked. You receive the e-mails as long as the value of 4 or -4 spam points is not exceeded.
For the administration of the anti spam settings you need the data of your e-mail address (e-mail address and password). For the administration of the settings on the DOMAIN level you need an administrative account.
If you use the product HEX or HEXlight, you can set up the administrative account directly in your switchplus user account. You just need to activate the function spam admin on the e-mail address.
MAIL clients can use a postmaster account as administrative account. If you don’t have such an account, you need to create it in your switchplus user account (also possible as alias).
